Ceramics Three

All artworks are based on the student's Artist Statement

Students choose the specific clay building methods to complete works.

Ceramics Three continues building on skills learned in Ceramics Two, while  challenging the students to be self directed.  They also formulate an artist statement to guide the direction of their work and further help them develop a unique artistic style.

This course allows students a concentration in the clay building techniques of their choice. In addition to the hand building methods of slab, coil, and pinch, they may use the potters wheel and the sculpture method to create works.  They also have opportunity to work with clay combined with Traditional Mixed Media.

Once again, they will experiment with an array of glazing/surface finishing techniques.  The work of various Ceramics artists will be observed to increase their understanding and provide inspiration in the medium of clay.  They will also document their progress and create a final presentation of their experience and works created throughout the semester.

They must approach each work with an attitude of artistic professionalism. Extreme attention to detail and an adherence to of their own artistic statement within each of their clay works is required.

They are encouraged and expected to take their skill set to a new level by challenging themselves in their utilization of clay constructing and surface finishing techniques.

For the optimum grade, an excellent work ethic is needed and each student must be self directed as they plan and complete clay works throughout the semester.
